Issue 10 - October 2026

Welcome

Welcome to our Teaching School Hub Trust Newsletter

Thank you to all our schools, partners, colleagues for your continued engagement, collaboration and support in delivering the Golden Thread of professional development- from Initial Teacher Training (ITT) and welcoming Early Career Teachers (ECTs) into the profession, through to National Professional Qualifications (NPQs) and leadership development.

We are proud to see the impact of this shared commitment. By 2025/26, 49.0% of teachers had participated in at least one Golden Thread CPD programme, a significant increase from 14.2% in 2021/22. This progress reflects not only the value of high quality professional development but also the collective effort of the schools, mentors, facilitators, leaders and partners who make these opportunities meaningful and impactful.

As the saying goes, it takes a team. Together, we are helping to strengthen teaching, develop leadership and create opportunities for colleagues at every stage of their career to learn, grow and thrive. Thank you for being part of that journey.

In this edition, we share the latest updates from across the Hub, including key information, upcoming opportunities, programme developments and ways to get involved. Whether you are supporting new teachers, developing your own practice or planning professional learning across your school, we hope you will find something useful.

To help you find what matters most to you, we have included links to the relevant sections throughout the newsletter, making it easier to access the information and opportunities most relevant to your role and setting.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership. We look forward to working with you as we continue to make a difference together across our teaching community.

ECTP news

Unity Teaching School Hub has welcomed Early Career Teachers (ECTs) and their mentors to the first conferences of the year for both the Ambition and National Institute of Teaching (NIoT) Early Career Teacher Programmes (ECTP). The conferences marked an important milestone in the programme, bringing colleagues together to begin the year’s professional learning, share experiences and build connections with fellow ECTs and mentors.

To support successful implementation of the Early Career Training Programme (ECTP), Induction Tutors should remind all participants to complete their orientation on Steplab  for the Ambition programme and on Prism for the NIoT programme.  They should also regularly monitor engagement on Steplab and Prism, ensuring ECTs complete fortnightly self-study and mentors record weekly observations and feedback during Year One (moving to fortnightly observations and feedback in Year Two). This consistent engagement is vital for demonstrating participation in the ECTP and meeting DfE metrics for funded release time.

New SEND and Inclusion Training Materials Now Available

The Department for Education has published the first set of SEND In-House Training Materials to support schools and post-16 settings in delivering professional development on SEND and inclusion. The training materials form part of the government's wider commitment to strengthening support for children and young people with SEND and are designed to help settings build staff knowledge, confidence and understanding of inclusive practice.

The free, editable materials include structured training content, facilitator guidance, practical strategies and activities for discussion and reflection. They are designed to reduce the time needed to develop training materials locally and leaders can tailor them to their setting and use them during INSET days, staff meetings, staff development days and wider professional development programmes.

Developed by Ambition Institute for DfE, the materials complement other SEND professional development opportunities, including the NPQ for SENCOs.
